Another rather personal image for me. This is the frame counter dial from an old Zenit 35mm SLR film camera, I think it might be a Zenit ET but I’m not 100% sure. My very first “proper” SLR was a Zenit E that I bought back in the early 80s with my first bonus pay packet. It was incredibly basic even as basic cameras go but it opened up a whole new world to me, PROPER MANUAL PHOTOGRAPHY that I gave me control over what the camera was doing. I started to learn what aperture, exposure, shutter speed and ISO did and along with my The 35mm Photograph’s Handbook (the bible for photographers back then) and I started to become creative.

I learnt principals of photography, lenses, film types and light that I still use when I see the world today.

It sparked a love affair that will last forever.
