Middle of December back in 2011 and I went out for a walk to look for abstract shapes in nature. I stood for quite a while looking at this tree getting a feel for it’s complexity and shape against an almost flat grey sky. I like it but something just didn’t work for me. The the bird top left flew into shot, click and I had the shot I wanted for the day.

Getting home I had already decided to process the image in black and white with a high contract. It worked perfectly.
